Last night I went to dinner with some friends to try a restaurant on the west side of town of Greenville South Carolina called Bar Margaret. The cook is one of my Uber customers. Several months ago one of my clients Mr Big South music management with Carolina 2x Shine was hosting an event in Charlotte North Carolina where at the time, Pittsburgh Steelers Terrell Edmunds was there to do autograph signing. (He since then has changed teams) The cook Mr. George who is my customer let me know he is a huge fan. So after driving one night I told him I would get him an autograph and bring it back framed as well as give him a review for his food. Especially since he said he has the best best burgers in town.
Because time has been so busy it’s been put on the back burner to frame the poster autographed from the event and to visit him at his job.
I saw him two nights ago while driving for Uber and I made a promise I would bring it to him this weekend.
I have never been to the restaurant “Bar Margaret”. I found out the restaurant is named after the owners pet dog. For the ole schoolers, the location is located on the new side of the west end by the old Cracker Jacks convenience store and Paces Jewelers.
As I walked in, it was totally the atmosphere I loved. There was cool music and colorful fun portraits and paintings designed all around and nothing matched but it fit so perfect in this amazing vibe place. I didn’t understand the skeletons on the windows or printed on the pillows but I did appreciate the art all around me. Some were by local artists that had pieces for sale.
We ordered our drinks as we sat down by the window in a corner and I could enjoy the visual of the room. I had the mojito and it was perfectly made. Matter of fact it tasted the same as I make it at home from a recipe my Asian friend gave me once.
The owner brought us complimented Thai Korean Bites as an appetizer from George. It was small chicken thigh chunks savored in a a sweet tangy semi spicy sauce served with a shrimp chip, basically a rice cake and a Thai cucumber salad mix in a small cup. The flavors were very good together and even though I’m not huge on spice I really like those Korean bites.
For my meal I I told the server I wanted to order whatever George would think is the best burger as he raved about it so much in the Uber car one night driving him home.
Hands down this was the best burger I have ever eaten. I travel all over the country trying various foods and flavors with Tasteful Tips & Trips food blog on my PR trips and I truly feel this Goldie locks has found her porridge.
My burger was moist on a soft sesame bun filled with well cooked but juicy meat that had a special sauce with lettuce tomatoes American melted cheese, purple onion and sweet flavor pickles . The burger litterally was so flavorful I was making noises with each bite. That’s how you know it tastes so good with me. The burger didn’t come with regular fries but I added them. My friend had the loaded fries of bacon scallions and with a queso sauce. They were good too.
It definitely is a place to go enjoy a fun girls night or even date night.
For my burger, fries and mojito averaged around $30 plus tip. This place is alittle pricy, but definitely worth it. The grilled to perfection “gooder burger” was around $11. The oversized fries was $6 and the mojito was $11. Those prices aren’t too bad for the area and atmosphere. But it was the extra taxes that get you. You pay hospitality, alcohol and sales tax totally $2.79. That’s Greenville & the tourist city for you I guess.
It was a lot of burger and fries so I took home for a late night snack.
So if you are traveling through the town of Greenville South Carolina, for pleasure or business, you should stop at Bar Margaret which is right there on the corner with a huge sign saying “DELICIOUS” on 1269 Pendleton Street. And when you go, tell the cook George I said hello!
