Recently, some friends of mine was promoting a stage play in the community. I was working on a film out of town so I personally couldn’t go represent with S.W.I.F.T. Magazine to be in the room for a review.

However, one of my Columnist Writers attended and this is what she had to say;

“Showtime Productions’ stage play Collateral Damage, written and directed by Kerrick Greer & Johnny Sizemore, is a compelling drama that masterfully intertwines themes of loss, betrayal, and the fragility of family bonds. With a gripping storyline, dynamic performances, and immersive production elements, this play captivates its audience from start to finish.

The story unfolds in the aftermath of Councilman Charles Bradford’s tragic death, a loss that fractures his once-close family. Five years later, his daughter Camille returns home, eager to celebrate her upcoming wedding. However, beneath the surface of this joyous occasion lie unresolved grief, buried secrets, and long-standing tensions that threaten to unravel her world. The play takes the audience on an emotional journey as shocking revelations emerge, challenging the characters’ relationships and forcing them to confront painful truths.

One of the most impactful moments comes when Alex, who served five years in prison for a car accident that killed Charles, pieces together her fragmented memories and realizes she was not the driver—Dallas was. This revelation forces Dallas to confront his own guilt and responsibility, making for one of the most emotionally charged scenes of the play. The intensity is heightened by a chilling moment when Dallas, overwhelmed by his own secrets, lashes out violently against Alex, showcasing the dark themes of manipulation and abuse.

The performances in Collateral Damage were nothing short of remarkable. Dalinda Brown’s portrayal of Danielle stood out with her charisma and stage presence, particularly in a high-energy scene where she delivered a flawless Beyoncé-inspired performance. The entire cast brought their characters to life with raw emotion and authenticity, making it easy for the audience to become fully invested in their journeys.

The production’s lighting and sound design played a crucial role in enhancing the storytelling. The red lighting during Dallas’s violent outburst added a dramatic intensity, while the seamless transitions and sound effects kept the momentum of the play flowing naturally. The intimate setting allowed for a more personal and immersive experience, making the emotional highs and lows even more impactful.

Beyond its entertainment value, Collateral Damage delivers powerful messages about the weight of our choices, the consequences of buried secrets, and the complexities of forgiveness. It challenges the audience to reflect on their own relationships, the ways grief can fracture a family, and the difficult road to healing.

This play is a must-see for anyone who appreciates thought-provoking drama, complex character development, and unexpected twists. With its gripping narrative and emotional depth, Collateral Damage is a production that lingers in the mind long after the curtains close. Showtime Productions has delivered a theatrical masterpiece that is both entertaining and deeply resonant.”
